This weekend belbroughton parish council asked the residents of the village to show the world what they thought made Britain great using the media of scarecrows! Yes! It was the Belbroughton Scarecrow festival.
The array of scarecrows on offer was immense the kids waved and got excited at everyone as did the adults.
To be totally honest there’s not much more I can tell you about the scarecrow festival that would do it justice so here are just a few of the photos that I’ve taken of the scarecrows, and the activities that we took part in.
Possibly my favorite scarecrow set The Ashes 2013
These scarecrows were all based on british authors can you name them and the characters?
These Were Historical figures, How many can you name?
The British Army was well represented, but i’m not sure where the rest of the armed forces were!
The british seaside holiday, Afternoon tea and other british institutions were also represented.
There Were also some random offerings
After we’d walked around the scarecrows for a couple of hours, we visited the local primary schools playing fields. there was an entry fee to get in of £1 per child, £3 per OAP, £4 per Adult or £7 per family, there were 4 Adults and 3 kids in our party and were charged only the £7 family fee which I thought was quite reasonable. However i did have 1 bugbear and that was that once inside you had to then pay again for most things so you were effectively paying to be able to spend more money, but this didnt spoil our day at all.
First of all the kids said hello to a walking talking scarecrow, then made bird feeders and finally saw a model turtle.
Then we found the park where the boys were able to let off some steam
Finally after a fantastic few hours of fun we we had more fun on our way back to the car.
I didn’t realise how much there would be to do, so i’d put my sunday Sunday dinner in the slow cooker so we didn’t get to do everything that there was to do or indeed find every scarecrow, but we still had such a fantastic day out and all it cost was £7. I really can’t wait for next year.
I’m linking this to the lovely fiona at coombe mill country kids.
What brilliant fun! I remember driving through Cornwall a few years ago and seeing loads of scarecrows littered around in different positions, bet this was just as weird.
Nipping over from Country Kids.
It was so much fun seeing the excitement on the boys faces every time they spotted one was the best part for me I think.
Thank you for nipping over
Sounds like a really fun day out! Something a bit different too!
It was, the kids had so much fun
Looks like great fun
I’ve seen a lot about these Scarecrows lately but didn’t realise just how much there was there! Sounds a fantastic day and you’ve taken some great photos.
I would love to of been here!! xxx
That looks like such a lot of fun! I’d love to see so many different types of scarecrows like that. It’s amazing how creative people can be!

so much variety on the scarecrows and looks like fun 🙂 xxx
What a fun festival – and the sun was shining! It must have been so interesting to see what people had created and then to finish it off with a trip to the park as well – such great family time spent together. Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.
Great post – and what a super idea for a festival. Never heard of one like this before. Looks like you al has a great time
I’m gutted that we didn’t see the Ashes one, but I think other than that we saw most of the same ones as you. Another year I think we might go to the activities too.
The cricket club always do cricket themed ones and as it’s the end of the season they sell the beer and wine cheap in the clubhouse too
