A School Lunch Induction

JR starts full time school in September, but we’re quite lucky as we have got into our 1st choice school which JR is familiar with because he’s attended the nursery there for 18 months. I have no doubt in my mind that he will be absolutely fine and settle really well.
Although at his school they don’t do induction days before September he does have a staggered start where he will only stay until 1pm for 7 school days, and he has had a lunchtime induction. JR’s lunchtime induction happened last Wednesday, and through this induction he has decided he wants

“warm school lunches at school, not hot school lunches because hot burns”

JR’s Lunch will cost between £1.90 & £2.30 per day depending on what drink he decides he wants, I was a bit dubious about whether or not his school meal would be worth the cost or not, so when I was given the opportunity to have a school meal with him I was quite excited to see what a school meal was like 16 years since I had my last one.
I met JR at his nursery and he was very very excited to be having lunch like a ‘reception’ boy at school, he was very bored in the queue as he really doesn’t have much patience at all, but when we eventually got to the front of the queue he collected his beaker for his water, his tray and selected a drink. Then came JR’s favourite part paying for his meal, after that he chose a pot of fruit for his pudding. The available choice was fantastic,a wide range of fruit, cakes, and yoghurts. Then he chose his main meal, the choice here was fish cakes, roast pork, or cheese and potato pie. JR chose the fish cake for himself and the roast pork for me. The vegetable selection was also vast with the choice of roast, jacket, new or smashed potato, parsnips, sprouts, carrots, peas and beans. JR chose new potatoes and beans for himself and parsnips, roast potatoes and sprouts for me. There was also a large salad bar where he could have as little or as much salad as he wanted (he wanted none)!
JR really enjoyed having a school lunch although he didn’t eat a lot of it as there was way to much going on in the lunch room, but he said he definitely wants school lunches not sandwiches.
My big little man is growing up so quick, I don’t like it.
If anyone finds the growing up off switch can you let me know please!
