On Sunday February 16th after a fantastic morning on the coombe mill feed run we all piled into the car and headed off initially to find a petrol station. We fully intended to spend the afternoon on the farm or at the most spend a few hours around the Bodmin Gaol grounds. However after filling up with diesel I spotted a sign for Tintagel, ‘the birthplace’ of King Arthur.
Obviously this all meant nothing to the Tiny 3 but me and Mr M&TTT thought it would be fantastic to go, although after the winter storms that had battered the south of England since Christmas we really weren’t sure what the area would be like.
As it was the area of ruins were open, however due to cliff damage and unsafe rocks Tintagel beach was closed.
We walked down the steep, but beautiful path to the Tintagel visitor centre, and allowed the boys a bit of freedom
‘to walk in front on our own mommy’
When we reached the visitor centre we realised that we wouldn’t be able to go up to the ruins because with the pushchair it would be impossible to get up the steps. So we just spent a lovely few minutes admiring the scenery and getting our first proper taste of the sea air.
JR was really interested in the information board and wanted me to read it all to him.
Then we were ready for the walk back up the hill and again the boys had the chance for a bit of freedom
Although they also loved walking with Daddy especially when he helped them cross the stream to investigate the hillside.
I think the walk up the hill was all a bit too much for the boys though!
.
On the way back to coombe mill we spotted a sign for Boscastle, a village I know of from the TV series ‘ A seaside parish’ and also from the flash flood of 2004. We didn’t really know much more than that and we weren’t sure what was really there but decided as the sun was shining we’d take a drive and see what it was like.
We walked along the river and came to these stunning views, well I say we I did as again I had to walk up a rather steep bit of hill that really wasn’t suitable for the pushchair, or for 2 tired toddler’s legs.
I would have loved to have discovered more of Boscastle but by this point we were all getting hungry and craving our chicken dinner, which was cooking in the slow cooker back at the cottage, and the boys wanted to get back for the afternoon train ride. We didn’t get back in time for the train in the end because we took a wrong turn on the way back to the farm and it took us nearly 2 hours too get back, thanks I-maps! But hey-oh it was another adventure we enjoyed as a family.
I’m linking this with the lovely Fiona at coombe mill and country kids

I love Tintagel and Boscastle, both beautiful places to visit.ni hope you all had a fab time on your holiday.
Cornwall has so many amazing places to visit doesn’t it. Looks like you all had a wonderful day. #blogclub
Boscastle and Tintagel are definitely ones to revisit when they are all pushchair free, the ruins are a climb but the views amazing. Polzeath beach might be a better one for your October visit, no hills to climb and park on the beach. So much of Cornwall still to see even though I know you toured far and wide. Some lovely photos from your trip to the coast here. Thank you for sharing on Country Kids.
JR is very keen to go back to both so I think we might borrow a baby carrier for la and take venture up to the ruins if he’s still interested then that is.
Polzeath beach is definitely on our to visit list too
Wonderful! My sister has been to Boscastle and I’d love to go – as much as I want to get to Coombe Mill 🙂 looks like you had a great time. Thanks for linking to PoCoLo x
Grace says – What a fab holiday and so please you all had a great time xx #pocolo
I can’t wait to go back and explore Tintagel in the Summer, and to go back to Boscastle knowing what view is available up the top.
Nipping over from Country Kids.
We can’t wait to get back either. We’re going to take a baby carrier when we’re back at coombe mill in october and explore some more of tintagel and boscastle without the pushchair
