My little chicken catcher

The highlight of any holiday at Coombe Mill farm for the whole family is the daily feed run and tractor ride, with the hope each day that they would get to drive tne tractor with farmer Nick.

First stop every morning would be the pigs and the chickens with the children deciding who would get fed first the pigs or the chickens. Most days the children decided to feed the pigs first as this would mean more time in with chickens.

During our first feed run on the Sunday morning TP was very disappointed that he hadn’t managed to catch a chicken when most of the other children had, but he was determined that at some point that week he would catch and hold a chicken.

Mondays feed run was just a TP and Mommy affair from our family as JR wasn’t feeling too well and had gone back to bed and LA had yet to wake up. On the way to the tractor TP told me ‘I WILL catch a chicken or duck today Mommy’ to which I just nodded politely and agreed, not for one second believing he would actually manage it. Well how wrong could I have been within a couple of minutes TP was proudly holding a chicken. By the time it came to leaving the chicken field TP had caught and held 8 chickens.

After that morning there was no stopping him, my little chicken catcher was happiest in the chicken field with a chicken or duck in his arms doing his very own chicken dance.
LA even got in on the act as the week progressed too IMG_0705.JPG

  1. The chicken dance was something else! I think it came from the excitement of finally working out he could catch one. Lovely memories of your week with us I hope you spotted yourself and TP in my post too. Thank you for sharing on Country Kids.
