School struggles

When I collected JR from school yesterday his teacher told me that he’s not doing as well as we thought.
In fact he struggling in some areas.
The area he is struggling most in is reading.
He can understand phonics, he can recognise most of the sounds, but when it comes to turning them into words they seemingly get lost in translation.
They say he’s not yet ready for books with words, and he is back onto picture books for a little, and they’ll try him with words again soon.
Last night I was really worried about it but having spoke to his teacher this morning I’m sure he just needs a little more time and will be reading simple CVC and high frequency words before we know it!
I’d love to know if any of my readers are going through the same or similar things with their reception children.

  2. Oh sweetness – try not to worry too much he is still very young.

It’s good that they’ve noticed and have told you because now you can all support his learning but it doesn’t mean he’s struggling.

He may just not be interested yet.

    Xx

    • Thank you, it’s a very big worry especially when I see all the ‘A is doing this at school’ ‘C’s teacher says he’s top at this this and this’ tweets and Facebook statuses
