Pirate pursuit a Galt toys review

Until christmas the boys didn’t really play board games, we’d had a few but they never really seemed to keep the boy’s very short attention spans and i’d end up packing them away before the game was finished. However for christmas the boys recieved a couple of memory type games and i noticed when playing them that they were beginning to hold their attention. I then decided that over the next few months i’d try to expand our collection of games.

So when I was asked by Galt Toys if I would like to choose an item from their website to review it was an easy choice to choose a board, what wasn’t easy was deciding which one as their were so many to choose from.

After much deliberation we settled on Pirate Pursuit mainly because like most young boys my 2 can’t get enough of pirates.                                                                                      20140117-113707.jpg

The game board itself is a 4 piece jigsaw that TP was easily able to fit together himself, i would say that it is better put together on a table or non carpeted floor as the carpet made the board a little wobbly.

The game comes with a wind up pirates galleon which forms an integral part of the game, as it travels around the track at the edge of the board.

The game comes with 24 gold coins, 1 dice, 1 dice shaker, 4 pirate shaped counters. Also you have 4 loot bags shaped boards, that can be seen in the picture below.

The aim of the game is to be the 1st player to fill your loot bag with coins from the treasure chest before the pirates catch up with you. There are various forfeits you undertake like giving an opponent a coin for landing on their home space or putting a coin back if the ship lands on your colour. The age range of the game is 3-7, and I think that this is a very fair range.

This game managed to to keep both boys attention until the end of the game and when the game was over they immediately wanted to play again, and for the past week it has been a firm favourite in our house.

This game retails direct from galt toys for £15.99 but as i write this is available for £13.34 from amazon. I feel that both these prices are reasonable for such a great game that is fun for the whole family.

Disclosure: I recieved this game free of charge for the purposes of this review, however all photos and opinions are my own.
